Front-End Developer at StraighterLine

Full-time Position in Baltimore

StraighterLine is looking for an energetic, driven Front End Developer with well-rounded technical skills and strong digital experience to join our collaborative technology team. This Front End Developer role includes a full range of responsibilities, including developing and converting quality digital assets for use on a variety of StraighterLine content platforms. The successful candidate’s work emphasizes usability, performance, and standards-based cross-browser compatibility. This is a full-time, on-site position in our Baltimore, Maryland office.


  • Layout and style updates across the range of StraighterLine web properties, including an e-commerce site, blog, and other web properties
  • Creation of landing page templates
  • Maintain the StraighterLine blogs
  • Develop StraighterLine branded assets for marketing and social media
  • Ensure the usability of forms and other interactive elements
  • Ensure that all assets conform to StraighterLine brand guidelines

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BS Degree or equivalent
  • 2+ years of practical experience with front-end website development
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and integration of new HTML5 elements
  • Experience with JavaScript and jQuery
  • Ability to create front-end code using SEO best-practices
  • Experience with responsive design using a front-end framework, such as Bootstrap, Foundation, or Semantic UI
  • Experience coding for cross-browser and cross-platform inconsistencies, enabling graceful degradation when necessary
  • Experience with open source PHP systems such as WordPress, Drupal, Magento, and Moodle
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, but also able to work independently on assigned tasks and projects
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies

Additional Experience a Plus

  • Versioning tools, such as BitBucket, Git, and SubVersion
  • CSS Preprocessors, such as SASS or LESS
  • JavaScript frameworks including AngularJS and Node.js
  • A/B and multivariate testing tools, such as Optimizely or Visual Website Optimizer
  • Creating landing pages with marketing automation tools like Marketo or Hubspot
  • JIRA or other project management tools
  • Knowledge of local Starbucks location, as well as other key eateries!
