Social Media Supervisor at Planit

Full-time Position in Baltimore


The Social Media Supervisor is responsible for developing and leading client plans and serving as the point of contact for strategic client direction. The Social Media Supervisor additionally manages junior level team members and provides guidance and direction. 


Client Relationship Management 

The Social Media Supervisor position requires the ability to manage, and begin to lead, the agency’s day-to-day relationship with key social media client contacts. 

  • Earn and keep each client’s respect and confidence as a trusted advisor, bringing value to their business through a strong commitment to success, consistent performance and the ability to develop a wide range of ideas and solutions 

  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of, and be conversant in, each client’s business—their key issues, competitive situation and industry trends 

  • Demonstrate confidence and authority as the day-to-day voice of the agency team 

  • Effectively balance the dual expectations of your clients and the agency 

  • Anticipate potential relationship or expectation issues, advising the Social Media Director and Agency Management in time for the agency to respond proactively 

  • Assist the Account Director with the development of an annual Client Development Plan for each of his/her assigned accounts – grow client business 


Staff and Social Media Project Leadership 

The Social Media Supervisor position requires the ability to successfully focus the efforts of agency personnel so that projects are completed as proposed—on-time, within budget and with a minimum of disruption to daily activity of client or agency. 

  • Outline expectations of, and communicate effectively with, agency team members 

  • Effectively assign, delegate, coordinate and monitor the work of agency staff members assigned to client projects 

  • Demonstrate an investment in, and effective commitment with, the agency/client “team” to develop and support a positive mindset about the work, the client and the agency staff that is involved 

  • Make strategic recommendations and plans that integrate social media activities into larger marketing campaigns to support business objectives and collaborate with other cross-functional departments 

  • Assist in the management of communications properties for Planit from both a proactive and response perspective 

  • Oversee timelines and collaborate with creative and digital strategy teams to drive asset approval and delivery on a timely basis 

  • Develop disruptive influencer outreach programs, that support key product stories or client initiatives at targeted times while meeting budget guidelines 

  • Establish rapport and trust with a range of staff members assigned to your account(s)—acknowledging the expectations of and on others, identifying team and project needs and remaining open to considering multiple points-of-view 

  • Mentor and support junior staff with an emphasis on employee growth and retention 

  • Provide a model for project leadership: prepared and proactive, thorough and accurate 

  • Encourage and demonstrate unity behind team and agency decision making 

  • Effectively incorporate senior management as project objectives or issues warrant 

  • Oversee and mentor social media manager’s growth and development including management of specific projects and categories 


Analytic and Planning Abilities 

As the Social Media Supervisor, you are expected to employ a range of thinking and decision-making approaches—“what if,” “end-in-mind,” “critical,” “trade-off,” and “judicious” approaches to issues and initiatives on a daily basis. 

  • Be able to develop a range of options for client and agency staff regarding workload, scheduling, troubleshooting and support

  • Evaluate and provide a point of view on strategic social media and ways to integrate other agency disciplines

The Social Media Supervisor is lead project manager on client projects, provides guidance to the assigned social media staff, and therefore must demonstrate an ability to organize workload and workflow. 

  • Establish clear objectives and day-to-day priorities for yourself 

  • Effectively plan and organize the work of you and your team—handling multiple projects efficiently, effectively and productively 

  • Provide effective and efficient oversight of agency resources to ensure projects are delivered as promised in terms of time, budgets and results 

  • Identify, classify, categorize and be able to retrieve information as required by you or agency team members 

  • Prepare thorough, accurate and consistent work to clients reflective of the agency’s quality standards 

  • Be able to adapt to workload and working conditions while maintaining a positive attitude and professional demeanor 


Presentation/ Selling Skills 

As a Social Media Supervisor, you are expected to effectively present the agency’s decisions, recommendations and creative product to a range of client audiences. 

  • Develop and demonstrate a clear, comfortable, persuasive presentation style for both formal and informal settings 

  • Be well-rehearsed and prepared for the unexpected 

  • Make certain presentation support materials are consistent and in line with the agency’s expectations of quality 


Written Communication Skills 

The Social Media Supervisor must be able to write clearly and persuasively. 

  • Provide clear, thoroughly written direction to agency team members, and be able to contribute to the development of strategic documents, presentations, etc. 

  • Deliver concise, accurate and actionable accounts of meetings and discussions 

  • Develop persuasive summary and recommendation documents for presentation to client and agency decision-makers 

  • Contribute to project and/or annual client planning documents 


Computer Skills 

The Social Media Supervisor should be proficient in, and be able to provide support to junior personnel regarding, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Advantage, and all available social media research and tracking tools available within the agency. Additionally, the Social Media Supervisor should know how to use all agency presentation systems and equipment.


Adherence to Agency Processes 

  • The Social Media Supervisor must consistently utilize agency tools and processes to manage projects to an on-time and on-budget completion and to support the information needs of agency management 

  • Prepare accurate and timely internal communication: creative briefs, job starters, change orders, purchase orders, timelines, and estimates (as needed) 

  • Review and/or prepare accurate and timely external communication: point-of-view support, conference reports, recaps, timelines, estimates and weekly status reports 

  • Review weekly status reports before distribution 

  • Review, approve, present and gain approval of project estimates from clients 

  • Develop and monitor project estimate vs. actual time and cost accruals to eliminate or minimize write-offs 

  • Review monthly billing for accuracy and completeness in accordance with the Accounting calendar 

  • Enter time on a daily basis 

  • Follow all standard agency policies and procedures 



  • Has reached a senior social media/content strategy level or above with 8+ years of experience 

  • 6+ years of experience within an advertising agency or comparable experience 

  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster optimal team relationships 

  • Must have proven experience in working with commonly used social media platforms 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Proven experience building audience engagement 

  • Enthusiasm for technology and innovation 

  • Team builder with a collaborative, can-do attitude 

  • Detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills 

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in public relations, marketing, communications or related field 

  • Weekend and after-hours work are expected in the 24/7 PR and social media news cycle 

  • Ability to travel domestically during the work week 

  • Ability to learn quickly 

  • Strong knowledge of social media trends, using different platforms and creating engaging content and experiences
